Dutch Platform for Fish Passage Engineering

New Dutch Platform for Fish Passage Engineering founded in June 2011. The platform consists of ecologists, civil engineers and project managers and will stimulate knowledge exchange. 

The past fifteen years the Dutch water managers have been working to eliminate fish migration barriers. Most of the water managers have developed policies and criteria for tackling fish migration problems at pumping stations, dams and locks. In the coming years millions of euros are spent to further optimize the ecological highway for migratory fish. The participants in the platform will create a bridge between ecology and civil engineering. Stimulating and optimizing the cooperation between ecologists, engineers, hydrologists, and project managers is essential for operation of fishways. The platform will organize study tours and meetings and share information on new technologies.
